Pillpoppin.jpeg is a databender for images: it transforms images into audio tracks and changes through instruments dedicated to sound distortion. The result is a distorted image that arises from a reinterpretation of the data.
Pillpoppin represents an ekphrasis without soul, existing exclusively in the realm of machines.
The metaphor between the data (intensive as the way the machine interprets the world) and the sense (intensive as the way the human being interprets reality) is articulated on different planes:
In our universe, human, made of feeling and perception, a sound can create an image in our mind, as well as a painting inspire a musical song.
The machine does not have subjectivity or prospect capacity or at least perceptive. There is therefore no means of interpreting input freely.
The databending plays mathematically on this intrinsic impossibility. The raw data, the mathematical components of an image, are reinterpreted by a system that does not know the image as such, but reads the data and processes them as an audio track.
The machine will never listen to the audio, as it will never see the image.
The processing is blind, math, aseptic and completely subordinate to the work of an individual, external, capable of determining a vision and a lot.
The system is limited to filters and tools that acquire meaning only when you are able to understand and accept that the image, as given, is not an image**, but a series of humanly incomprehensible information.
